Heritage Educational Centre

The introduction of a new on-site destination Heritage/Educational Centre feature will celebrate Assumption Church’s heritage and ideals.

This interactive teaching and learning centre will provide on-site information and guidance through technology, opportunities for demonstrations, and educational forums.

The Centre will anchor the Campus while providing a gathering place for people to come together to expand their understanding of our history.

Heritage education and stewardship exist not only through the historical significance of Assumption Church but within the flexible use of public green areas as well.

The linking of peoples, places, chronicles and stories will reveal our local, provincial, and national history for local citizens and visitors alike.

Community Partners

The Master Plan provides for partnering with the Community, the University Campus and the City.

An open space framework which integrates into the broader fabric of the University of Windsor, the adjacent existing park network of the City of Windsor and the Odette Waterfront Sculpture Gardens will provide a welcoming feature to local citizens and visitors alike.

The Master Plan supports a context of integration into a healthy city fabric by introducing key new initiatives including:

  • The introduction of a new arrival/drop-off Court.
  • An expanded contiguous pedestrian network which builds upon and links the church precinct to city parks, the waterfront and campus walkway system.
  • An improved circulation and parking strategy to provide adequate parking for patrons and visitors.
  • Improved signage and wayfinding including an Orientation Pavilion and seating Arbor.
  • New gardens and greens for gatherings, social exchange and relaxation.
