As a social and cultural landmark, Assumption’s catchment extends well beyond the borders of Windsor and Essex County. The Church formed one of the building blocks not only of Windsor, Ontario but also of Canada. Our community acknowledges the prominent role Assumption has played by including a reference within the Coat of Arms of Windsor itself; the fleur-de-lis, centrally located reminds us of those original French settlers whose efforts saw the establishment of the church and site that became the settlement that built our city.
Heritage Education Centre
History has much to teach us, and learning these lessons strengthens our present and our future. The Assumption Master Plan addresses this truth through the introduction of a new Heritage Education Centre, and a number of educational kiosks on the campus. The new on-site destination Heritage Education Centre will celebrate Assumption Church’s heritage and ideals as well as our areas rich human history. A new addition to the campus, the Centre will connect the city’s many communities, providing a professional and accessible destination site for visiting family, friends and relatives (VFR’s).
This interactive, community-based learning centre will anchor the Campus Master Plan by providing a gathering place for people of all ages, abilities and cultures to come together to expand their understanding of our history. The New Heritage Education Centre will provide on-site information and guidance through technology, opportunities for demonstrations and educational forums — creating conditions for achievement, improving adult literacy and preparing children and youth for success.
Heritage Education Coordinator
Through the leadership of the Heritage Education Coordinator, this interactive, community-based learning centre can become a catalyst for storing and disseminating information to the public.
Interactive Educational Kiosks (int. /ext.)
Located strategically throughout the site, the Interactive Educational Kiosks will promote and encourage a highly interactive experience by delivering a wealth of complex information in a way that is very intuitive to visitors of the Heritage Education Centre
By bringing the information to the fingertips of the visitor, the Interactive Educational Kiosks will provide advanced but highly accessible, customized programming — providing each user with a unique and memorable experience.
The Interactive Kiosks are rich, multi-functioning and innovative forums encouraging and facilitating hands-on participation through, “Experiential Learning Tours.”
