The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 by 29 year old Father Michael J. McGivney — and is now the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has been called the, “strong right arm of the Church” and has been praised by popes, presidents and other world leaders for their support of the Church and aid to those in need. There are over 1.6 million members and in the past decade, the Knights have donated nearly $1 billion to numerous worthy causes. Thanks to the inspired work of Father Michael J. McGivney — whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican — his dream echoes across the world, living today in the hearts of his brothers and all of those they touch.
From the Knights humble beginnings in the basement of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut, the Order has grown tremendously — as has the insurance program founded by Fr. Michael McGivney.
Like the Knights of Columbus, Assumption has a long history of social activism and outreach to the poor.
