The Father Michael J. McGivney Arrival Promenade is part of the Public Gardens Initiative. The integration of public gardens into the campus precinct will heighten the image of Assumption Church. The benefits of recognizing and honouring important individuals and events with reference to the evolution of Assumption Church will be defined through dedications and story-telling within the landscape. Surrounded by various gardens, the promenade will stand as a focal point in history
As we celebrate our history, the Arrival Promenade will welcome citizens and visitors alike at Our Lady of Assumption Church; the front door to the oldest parish west of Montreal in Canada. Not only is the building an important cultural resource to Windsor and Canada, but it is the site of national, historical significance.
Assumption remains one of Ontario's most important religious landmarks from the first half of the 19th century. Assumption Heritage Trust Foundation has undertaken a comprehensive 9.6 million dollar restoration of the church and its surrounding grounds. The centrepiece of the restoration program is the arrival promenade; honouring Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney.
Diocese of London Bishop Ronald P. Fabbro, CSB has publicly announced that he will officially petition the Vatican to have Our Lady of Assumption named a Basilica. We are asking you, the newly formed Knights of Columbus council of Assumption to be her sponsoring council. Drawing from the inspiration of Father Michael J. McGivney, the purpose of the arrival promenade will be to honour his legacy as an apostle to the young, protector of Christian family life and Founder of the Knights of Columbus.
